Yes, you can sit the LANTITE outside Australia. ACER operates authorised test centres internationally, and overseas candidates follow the same registration process as candidates sitting in Australia. The main catch: not every country has a centre, availability is limited, and seats fill up quickly. If you are planning to sit overseas, the earlier you check availability the better.

How Overseas Sitting Works

The LANTITE is administered by ACER through the candidate portal at teacheredtest.acer.edu.au. When you register, you select a delivery mode and a test centre. For overseas candidates, the portal will show you which international ACER centres have available sessions in the current test window. If no centre is listed in your country, you have two options: check back when the next test window opens (centre availability can change), or use remote proctoring.

There is no separate overseas registration pathway. The process is identical to registering in Australia: create an account, enter your personal details, select your higher education provider, choose a test window, pick a delivery mode, and pay. Literacy and Numeracy are registered separately. For current fees, visit the ACER registration page.

Remote Proctoring: The Practical Alternative

If there is no authorised centre near you, remote proctoring is likely your best option. ACER offers remote proctoring as a delivery mode for the LANTITE. You sit the test from any suitable location with a stable internet connection and a webcam. A proctor monitors the session in real time.

Key things to know about remote proctoring:

  • You must book at least 72 hours in advance. Last-minute bookings are not accepted.
  • Allow 2.5 to 3 hours per component. The actual test is 120 minutes, but setup and identity verification add time before the clock starts.
  • You need a private, quiet room with no other people present. The proctor will scan your environment before the test begins.
  • Cancelling within 24 hours of your session is treated as an absence and your fee is forfeited.
  • A scratch pad and pen are provided digitally for the non-calculator section of Numeracy. Physical paper is not permitted.

Remote proctoring is available 24 hours a day during the test window, which matters if you are in a significantly different time zone from Australia. You are not locked into AEST session times.

Centre Availability: Check Early

ACER does not publish a permanent list of international test centres with guaranteed availability each window. Centre availability is confirmed when the test window opens and is shown during the registration process. This means you cannot verify your options until registration is live.

The practical implication: do not assume a centre in your city will have seats available. Authorised ACER centres internationally are used for multiple ACER tests, not just the LANTITE. Popular sitting times fill fast. Log in to the portal as soon as your window opens and check your options immediately.

Time Zone Considerations

Two time zone issues affect overseas candidates specifically.

Test window registration deadlines. ACER's registration closing dates are set in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) or Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) depending on the time of year. If you are in Europe or the Americas, the deadline in your local time may be a day earlier than the date shown on the ACER website. Convert the deadline carefully before assuming you have until midnight your time.

Results release. LANTITE results are released on published dates. Release times are given in AEST/AEDT. If you are waiting on results to meet an enrolment deadline at your Australian university, factor in the time zone gap so you can act on your result promptly. Results are accessed through your ACER candidate account, not emailed to you.

Everything Else Stays the Same

Overseas sitting does not change any other aspect of the test. The format, content, pass standard, and result rules are identical regardless of where you sit.

  • Pass standard: top 30% of the Australian adult population (70th percentile). Validated against OECD PIAAC data.
  • Both components: 65 questions, 120 minutes each.
  • Results do not expire once met. They are transferable between higher education providers.
  • There is no limit on the number of re-sits. Each component is independent.
  • Accommodations for disability or medical conditions are available. Request them at registration, not on test day.

Your valid photo ID must match the name in your ACER account exactly. For overseas candidates, a passport is the most straightforward option because it is universally accepted and avoids any questions about which forms of domestic ID ACER accepts.

Practical Checklist for Overseas Candidates

  • Log in to the portal as soon as your test window opens. Do not wait.
  • Check centre availability first. If there is no centre nearby, switch your delivery mode to remote proctoring during registration.
  • Convert all ACER deadlines and results release dates from AEST/AEDT to your local time zone.
  • Book remote proctoring at least 72 hours before your preferred session time.
  • Use your passport as your ID if you have any doubt about what ACER will accept.
  • Confirm your internet connection is stable. Remote proctoring sessions that drop due to connectivity issues may not be recoverable.
