Knowing what to expect on test day removes one major source of stress. Here is a clear, practical rundown of everything you need to know before you sit the LANTITE.
What to Bring
Before you leave the house, confirm you have the following:
- Approved photo ID (passport, driver licence, or another form specified by ACER)
- Your admission ticket, either printed or accessible on your device
Do not bring notes, textbooks, personal calculators, or any unauthorised device. The test centre provides everything else you need, including scratch paper for the Numeracy section.
The Tutorial at the Start
Both the Literacy and Numeracy tests open with a short tutorial. Use it. The tutorial walks you through the question interface, the flagging tool, and navigation controls before your timed session begins. Clicking through quickly is a wasted opportunity. Familiarise yourself so you are not learning the interface while the clock is running.
Understanding the Structure
Each test has 65 questions and a 120-minute time limit. The table below shows the key structural differences between Literacy and Numeracy.
| Feature | Literacy | Numeracy |
|---|---|---|
| Total questions | 65 | 65 |
| Time allowed | 120 minutes | 120 minutes |
| Sections | One session | Section 1 (52 q) + Section 2 (13 q) |
| Calculator | Not applicable | Section 1: yes. Section 2: no. |
| Scratch paper | Not provided | Provided |
| Recommended time split | Not specified | Section 1: 90-95 min. Section 2: 25-30 min. |
The Critical Numeracy Rule: You Cannot Go Back
This is the most important structural fact to internalise before test day. Once you move from Numeracy Section 1 to Section 2, you cannot return to Section 1. Do not advance until you are satisfied with your Section 1 responses. The recommended split is 90 to 95 minutes for Section 1 and 25 to 30 minutes for Section 2. Keep an eye on the clock and do not let Section 1 absorb all your time.
Use the Flag Feature
The test interface includes a question flag tool. If you are unsure about a question, flag it and move on. Return to flagged questions once you have answered everything else. This prevents a single difficult question from eating into the time you need for the rest of the test.
No Penalty for Wrong Answers
There is no penalty for incorrect answers. Every unanswered question is a guaranteed zero. Every answered question, even a guess, carries a chance of a mark. If time is running short, select your best guess on every remaining question before the session closes. Never submit with blanks.
Scratch Paper in Numeracy Section 2
Section 2 covers common numbers, fractions, and percentages without a calculator. Scratch paper is provided. Use it. Writing out each step of a calculation reduces errors and helps you keep track of multi-step problems. Do not try to hold working in your head when paper is available.
If Technology Fails During Remote Proctoring
If you are sitting the test remotely and experience a technical failure, do not close the browser or restart on your own. Contact the test administrator immediately through the support channel provided in your test instructions. ACER has procedures for technical interruptions. Acting on your own without contacting support first can complicate your situation.
Staying Calm Under Pressure
If you hit a difficult question, treat it as a flag-and-move moment, not a reason to panic. The 65-question format means no single question defines your result. Steady pacing across the full test gives you the best outcome. Take a slow breath, flag the question, and keep moving.
Simulate Test Day Before the Real Thing
The best way to arrive on test day feeling prepared is to have already done it. Our practice tests mirror the LANTITE format across both Literacy and Numeracy.
